TONIGHT we’ll see an all-star cast return to I’m A Celeb to tackle more creepy crawly and adrenaline challenges.
Blasts from the past including Carol Vorderman, Amir Khan and Helen Flanagan will reunite with Ant and Dec in the new I’m A Celebrity South Africa.
The cast of former campmates will likely be hoping another stint on the popular ITV show will boost their popularity – and it could also do wonders for their bank balance.
PR expert Carla Speight tells The Sun each star is set to make “hundreds of thousands of pounds” from their appearance, and could capitalise even more after depending on how they’re received.
“Not only does it make financial sense to go, but also their long-term career advancements could see returns in the millions collectively,” she says.
Ahead of the first episode we reveal the varying fortunes of the contestants in our I’m A Celebrity SA rich list.
Amir Khan – £35M
Amir Khan’s a big fan of cars and previously treated himself to a £435k Mansory Lamborghini Urus[/caption]Former boxer Amir Khan made a killing in the ring during his near-17-year career, which saw him win 34 times and lose six.
Among his biggest pay payouts was a reported £9m for fighting Saul Alvarez in 2016, when the Brit lost in the sixth round by knockout.
He was also reportedly paid £3m for turning down a fight against Kell Brook and took on Terrence Crawford – which ended after Amir took a punch to the groin.
Later he earned an estimated £5m for his bout against Brook, which ended in defeat for Amir but also led to a two-year ban after he tested positive for illegal substance Ostarine.
Away from boxing, Khan appeared on I’m A Celebrity back in 2017 and was rumoured to be the highest-paid contestant in the show’s then-17-year history.
Last year the Daily Mirror claimed the 36-year-old, who’s married to YouTube star Faryal Makhdoom, was worth £35million.
Carol Vorderman – £18m
Carol Vorderman has made a tidy sum from her TV gigs over the decades[/caption]Carol Vorderman burst onto TV screens back in 1982 on Countdown.
She spent 26 years co-presenting the hit programme as its resident maths whizz and at her peak reportedly earned £1m per year – making her one of the highest paid women in Britain.
The 62-year-old stepped down in 2008, allegedly amid a pay row when she was asked to take a staggering 90 per cent cut from her £900k salary.
Since then Carol’s filled her diary with plenty of money-spinning TV appearances including Loose Women, Lorraine and Strictly Come Dancing.
In 2016 she starred on I’m A Celebrity, reportedly earning £200,000 for her month’s stint in the jungle, and finished in eighth place.
Away from telly gigs, Carol’s supposedly made £750,000 from her book Detox For Life, which was a best-seller, and £100,000 from her autobiography.
Her figures were topped up after she sold her £2.6m mansion, a property, named Uplands, in Bristol, which she bought for £1.1m a decade earlier.
Spears Magazine claimed the TV star, who has won Rear Of The Year multiple times, is worth a whopping £18million.
Phil Tufnell – £4m
It wasn’t just cricket that took Phil Tufnell to the top end of our rich list[/caption]Cricketing legend Phil Tufnell managed to take 153 wickets during 42 Test caps for England – and bagged some juicy pay cheques as he’s reportedly worth £4million.
Since his cricket career came to an end in 2002, he landed multiple TV appearances including The Wheel, Pointless Celebrities and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
But one of Phil’s biggest earners would likely have been A Question Of Sport, where he was a team captain for 233 episodes between 2005 and 2021.
While his salary on the shown was not known, it was reported former host Sue Barker was paid around £200,000 per series.
Phil also likely made money off the back of winning I’m A Celebrity in 2003 and co-authoring the book Phil Tufnell’s’ A To Z Of Cricket.
Fatima Whitbread – £4m
The Olympic javelin star broke a world record in 1986[/caption]Olympian Fatima Whitbread earned 10 top three medals throughout her career as a javelin star and broke a world record with her 77.44-metre throw in 1986.
Since leaving sport in 1992 she has carved out an impressive TV career with slots ranging from A Question Of Sport to The Wright Stuff.
Fatima came third on I’m A Celeb in 2011, famously undergoing a challenge where she wore a helmet with 7,500 cockroaches – and one crawled up her nose.
The following year she topped up her earnings by becoming a regular fitness expert on This Morning – and is now estimated to be worth £4m.
Helen Flanagan – £3m
TV star Helen Flanagan is best known for playing ditsy Rosie Webster on Coronation Street.
The 32-year-old, who has three kids with ex-footballer Scott Sinclair, earned a sizeable sum from soapland before her I’m A Celeb stint in 2012.
After the show Helen made a few TV appearances including on Celebrity Super Spa, Celebrity Wedding Planner and Holby City.
Back in 2016 it was reported she would earn £30,000 for three months work during her much-anticipated return to Corrie.
Away from soaps it was claimed Helen could make around £4,500 for just one sponsored social media post.
Helen, who took time away from the limelight to raise her children, is reportedly worth £3million.
Shaun Ryder – £2.5m
Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, 60, has a checkered financial past after blowing millions and facing huge legal bills before bouncing back.
He earned a fortune from the band but in 1997 was sued by his former manager who claimed he was owed £150,000.
Shaun refused to pay, claiming he was stoned when he signed the contract, but was instructed to hand it over by the courts.
He couldn’t afford to pay – having splashed massive amounts on years of partying with drugs and alcohol – and admits his biggest mistake was not declaring bankruptcy.
Shaun told The Mirror that the decision ended up costing him £4.5m and all the money he was paid was used to pay off his debt.
He says he earned “a couple of hundred grand” for Happy Mondays world tours and was paid £80,000 “several times” when his tracks featured in Hollywood films but didn’t make a penny from it.
By 2010, Shaun had cleared his debt and made numerous TV appearances including Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Mastermind and Would I Lie To You.
Shaun says the £120,000 he received from appearing on I’m A Celebrity in 2010 was the first pay cheque he was able to keep in 13 years.
He’s estimated to be worth £2.5million now after multiple gigs on the small screen including Celebrity Gogglebox, earnings from his songs and releasing more music.
Jordan Banjo – £1m
Jordan Banjo rose to fame as part of the dance troupe Diversity, who won the third season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, beating songstress Susan Boyle.
After earning a tidy sum touring with the group, he made the move to TV presenting – fronting Got To Dance in 2013 and The Nickelodean’s Kids’ Choice Awards a year later.
In 2016, Jordan appeared on I’m A Celebrity and while he lasted just 18 days in the camp, he was reportedly paid £25,000.
Since then he’s had other big-money TV gigs including a stint presenting backstage on Dancing On Ice and commenting on Love Island drama in the spin-off show Aftersun.
Jordan also appeared on The Masked Dancer, celebrity versions of games shows, and recently the cooking show Eat Well For Less.
The 30-year-old is reportedly worth around £1million.
Paul Burrell – £500,000
Paul Burrell has amassed a small fortune over the years[/caption]Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell is reportedly worth £500,000, amassed from book sales, inherited money and other work.
After the princess died in 1997, he received £50,000 in Diana’s will.
In the years that followed, he was accused of “milking” her passing by Prince Harry.
A serialisation of Paul’s autobiography A Royal Duty was reportedly bought by the Daily Mirror for £500,000, which helped boost sales.
The 64-year-old has appeared on I’m A Celebrity twice – the first in 2004 and again 14 years later for the Australian version.
He also earned money from TV shows like Stars In Their Eyes, Through The Keyhole With Keith Lemon and documentaries about Diana.
Janice Dickinson – £500,000
Janice Dickinson bounced back from bankruptcy[/caption]Janice Dickinson was considered the world’s first supermodel but even she experienced money struggles.
After her modelling days wound down, she skilfully transitioned to America’s Next Top Model, landed her own reality show and appeared on the show The Surreal Life.
Janice also made money from I’m A Celebrity in 2007 and Celebrity Big Brother, which earned her a reported £300,000 in 2015.
Her TV appearances came after it was revealed she owed $1million (£800,000) in debt and filed for bankruptcy in 2013.
At the time Janice told Radar Online: “I had some trouble, so yes, it is true… I am upset and taking every step to pay everyone back and I feel terrible about it.”
She’s continued to do TV work – and is reportedly now worth £500,000.
